You Already Care. Now Learn How to Respond

Interdisciplinary eating Disorder training that builds confidence, compassion, and real-world skills

I’m here to help you thrive

After years of personal and professional experience, I founded Providers Who Care to help individuals and teams make sure they are quipped with the skills to prevent harm and improve patient outcomes in eating disorder support and care.

Every healthcare provider will encounter eating disorders. With Providers Who Care, you and your team will experience practical, compassionate training to help you recognize, respond, and support with confidence

Providers Who Care is for healthcare professionals who work with humans.

If you are supporting patients in any capacity, you will encounter eating disorders—whether they are named, hidden, or just beginning.

This training is designed for:

  • Physicians and medical residents

  • Nurses and nurse practitioners

  • Registered dietitians

  • Psychologists, therapists, and social workers

  • Allied healthcare providers across all settings

Whether you’re in a hospital, clinic, private practice, or community setting, this program will help you feel more confident, compassionate, and equipped in your care.

This program is for providers who:

  • Want to recognize early signs of eating disorders

  • Feel unsure what to say—or worry about saying the wrong thing

  • Are supporting patients with complex relationships with food, body, or weight

  • Want to prevent harm and improve patient outcomes

You might be here because:

  • You’ve had a patient where something felt “off,” but you weren’t sure how to approach it

  • You’ve focused on the medical or nutritional piece, but sensed something deeper was being missed

  • You’ve left an interaction wondering, “Did I help—or could I have caused harm?”

This training is for healthcare providers across disciplines who want to respond with more confidence, clarity, and compassion.

How this program is designed

This program is designed to move beyond theory—into real-world, compassionate care.

Your team will participate in a full-day, in-person training that covers:

  • Eating disorders beyond the DSM-5

  • Screening and early identification

  • Levels of care and referral pathways

  • What to say (and what not to say) in clinical conversations

The day is interactive, hands-on, and grounded in a trauma-informed, human-inclusive approach.

Following the training, your team receives:

Access to 12 monthly Office Hours sessions over one year—offering ongoing supervision, case consultation, and support as you integrate these skills into practice.

These sessions provide:

  • Case consultation and clinical guidance

  • Real-time support for challenging patient interactions

  • Continued skill development and clarification

  • Space for reflection, collaboration, and growth as a team

This ongoing support ensures that your team is not left asking, “Now what?”—but instead feels equipped, supported, and continuously developing in their care.

What Makes My Training Different

This isn’t passive learning.
This is skill-building.

My trainings are designed to help your team:

  • Recognize eating disorders beyond DSM criteria

  • Screen with confidence and clarity

  • Respond in the moment—without causing harm

  • Navigate complex, co-occurring conditions

  • Know when and how to refer to higher levels of care

  • Communicate in a way that builds trust, not resistance

Through interactive case work, real-life scenarios, and guided practice, your team won’t just learn what to do—they’ll practice how to do it.

This training is complete. Not only do I now have a better understanding for people with eating disorders, but I also feel more competent to intervene.

Meet Your Course Instructor

I’m Shawna Melbourn, a Registered Dietitian specializing in eating disorders—and an educator at heart.

Over the years, I’ve worked alongside individuals, families, and healthcare teams navigating the complexity of eating disorders. And one thing has become incredibly clear:

Healthcare providers care deeply—but many haven’t been given the training, language, or confidence to support eating disorders safely and effectively.

That’s where my work comes in.

As the founder of ED for RDs: Eating Disorder Education for Registered Dietitians, I’ve trained dietitians and healthcare providers across the world in compassionate, evidence-informed care.

I am also:

  • Certified Eating Disorder Specialist & Consultant (CEDS-C)

  • Approved Supervisor through IAEDP

  • Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor

My work is grounded in clinical experience, education, and a deep commitment to compassionate, human-inclusive care.
